Manners Gallery—Patterns in Time

Patterns in Time: becoming… being.. disappearing. was installed in the Manners Gallery at Jacksonville State University from January 9th, 2025 to February 6th, 2025. The artists showed half the Patterns in Time body of work along with selected artist books from Potter’s past including Overlays of Memory(1984-86), Perpendicular Vanishing Points(1991-92), and Quetzalcoatl The Winged Serpent Transfigured(1992-94).

They explore the concept of the book as architecture–architecture as book. Reading takes time; it also takes time to perceive a house as an architectural narrative. A book might be read like a floor plan where space and energy are connected, to dwell and ruminate in the house–the story.

Time is a collaboration of movement and space, action and response, transformation of energy that emerges and vanishes–the movement through entrances and exits. The artists explore the dimensions of time through the overlap of patterns: becoming… being.. disappearing.
