Abbott’s Flatland, written in the late 1800’s is still one of the most successful studies of how to think about dimensions. 

He reduces the world to two dimensions and shows how it would look to have a sphere move through.

First lets imagine ourselves as a line drawn on a wall seeing a sphere pass through a plane. We would see a dot on the wall, it would become a circle then a larger and larger circle, then smaller and smaller until it has passed through and disappears.
